Fall Activities for Seniors in Lumberton, NC

Autumn in North Carolina is truly stunning, with its vibrant fall colors, cool, refreshing air, and seasonal fun. For residents at Wesley Pines in Lumberton, NC, this time of year offers a host of fun fall activities for seniors. Here are some of our favorite autumn activities – both on- and off-campus:

Fall Markets

One of the highlights of any fall activities list for North Carolina has to be the array of seasonal farmers’ markets. These markets offer a bounty of fresh produce, farmstead cheeses, and homemade baked goods, providing a fantastic opportunity to enjoy farm-to-table freshness directly from local growers.

One of the most convenient farmers markets near Wesley Pines is the Robeson County Farmers Market, open from May through November on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Nature Walks

There’s no better way to take in the vibrant reds and oranges of the season than by wandering through a forest filled with autumn foliage. That’s why one of our favorite fall activities in North Carolina include hiking, biking, and leisurely strolls through the state’s beautiful parks and nature preserves. Enjoy time outside right on Wesley Pines’ campus, with pathways lined with tall pine trees and colorful arrays of blooming flowers to enjoy.

A hidden local gem also located just a quick 15 minute drive from our community, Luther Britt Park is 142-acres of beautiful lakes, walking and biking trails, and sports courts. Drive just a little further outside the city and you’ll find Lumber River State Park, a veritable haven for nature lovers and those who enjoy fishing, canoeing, and hiking.

Farm-Fresh Produce

Want more fresh produce? Lumberton, NC, is surrounded by fruit and vegetable farms – many that you can pick for yourself! Earlier in the season, you can find strawberry and blueberry fields in full-bloom in the area. There’s still a lot of produce in season though come fall! Head to Geraldine’s for their amazing pick-your-own fall selection of peanuts, peas, string beans, turnips, rutabagas, persimmons, and much more (including pumpkins, of course!).

You can also check out McQueen’s Produce Farm, a roadside market with a rotating assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables, including watermelon, sweet corn, butterbeans, and peanuts.

Warm-Up Inside

After spending time outside, you’ll probably want to warm up. Luckily, there are many indoor fall activities for seniors right at home. If you’re returning from the farm or fresh market, head to the kitchen to enjoy cooking or baking with your delicious produce. Or head to our beautiful dining room, where you can relax with some hot tea as you choose from the wide selection of made-to-order meals from our menu.
